Sophisticated Shoes

Somewhere in puberty, a switch is thrown and the girl who was happy in Nikes and Uggs, suddenly, stunningly switches to pumps--with jeans and a ski jacket, for church. She's 10.

Black fabric shoes from Nordstrom with a high wedge and sassy bow.

Thanks Hannah. Thanks Cindy!

Carly gives to Hannah, Hannah gives to Katie, and Katie gives to Eliza.

What more can I say?

The College Hunt

It's been a big week for colleges. The dear one and I spent Monday at the University of Richmond, and last night Tom and I attended the College Info Night for Juniors/Parents at her high school. Information overload?

Richmond was presented very well. We'll have to see how that goes. Last night's event included representatives from James Madison University, NOVA (Northern Virginia Community College), Ohio State, Univ. of Mary Washington, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Virginia Tech.

Good and informative but yet.....it would have been helpful for the community college rep to talk about the programs that guarantee admission to a four-year school. And, please....call me a stickler....but errant non-verb agreement makes me ......very uncomfortable. Really, I wish the lights in the auditorium had been lower so that no one could see me reflexively cringe. (Ouch! Twice!)

I'll confess. Sometimes I read the newspaper with a pen in hand! And, I've definitely edited a a few newsletters that have come home from the schools. Perhaps it is not a good example to edit at the dinner table?

Knitting has fallen by the wayside. There's been a tingling in the right arm, probably from too much mouse activity, and by 9PM all I want to do is hold a book. On the Florida trip I re-read The Great Gatsby, one of DD's reading assignments for her IB English Class. That's made reading her papers far more interesting. I surely don't read for the depth and details required for her assignments. (What did that dark and twisted tree mean?)

I'm about to lose some Hilton points, but was very excited to get a similar "warning" from United. To keep my account active, I can get a magazine or newspaper subscription. Great -- it's time for The Wall Street Journal.

Field Hockey at Disney Showcase

Once more the Disney machine has shown they know how to run a venue! The Wide World of Sports complex is phenomenal and it hosted the Field Hockey Showcase on 6-8 February. (While we were there, Disney was also hosting a far different event: the national cheerleading championships. Cheerleaders and Field Hockey players demonstrated just how different they are). Here are a few shots of our Capitol Pegasus U19 team.

As Anne Marie took hundreds of photos, I shot only a few, as I know she'll share her shots with all of us.
We hope that Anne Marie is working on the companion piece, How Field Hockey Players Are Different from Cheerleaders:
#1: Field Hockey Players do not dress alike when out of Uniform.
#2: Field Hockey Players do not wear matching hair ribbons. They might wear sinister bandanas.
