Thanksgiving Revisited

We're well on our way to Christmas as I post this photo from Thanksgiving. If it doesn't look like Thankgiving to you, it is one that we will always remember.

This photo of Capitol Pegasus U16 was taken at the polo grounds in Indio, California (near Palm Springs), where the U.S. Field Hockey Festival was held!
All the great things we'd heard about Festival were true! We just didn't know the trip would also include an ER visit on Thanksgiving!
We greatly enjoyed our travels with this great group of girls and their parents.

The Knitting Puzzle

So, it is December 1st and the angst begins. I've attached a photo of a men's sweater. If you look very carefully, you can see that I have positioned a front and back on top of a sweater that is a good fit. The front and back are teal and they are on top of a bottle green Ballybrae sweater.

The project sweater is Rhapsody in Tweed, by Kathy Zimmerman, from Interweave Knits, Fall 2004. I have searched and searched for additional yarn. I purchased this yarn on ebay, 8 hanks I think, back in 2000.

At this point, it is a mens medium, intended for my 80+ father.

The front and back are basically done. I have about 3+ skeins remaining. The questions are:

Can I make sleeves out of three hanks? (I think the front and back have used 5).

Should I give up and make a vest? Crew or V-neck? If V-neck where should I start the V?

This was to be a drop shoulder sweater, so what armhole adjustments would be needed?

I've never seen my father in a vest. The only other choice would be to finish this in whatever way and give it to a charity or auction. I love the cables--but am feeling a yarn shortage coming on.
